"Do You want a Showman or a Statesman?" San Francisco Examiner, 2 Nov. 1936, p. 10

"President Roosevelt's virtuousitv as a radio performer is pleasing to the ears of his followers.

"They reward it as a great campaign asset.

"By the same logic, they say that Governor Landon is lacking in the finer oratorical attainments.

"Nobody needs to argue the point.

"After all, a radio voice is only a phantom, as thin as the air in which it rides and as eDhemeral as a New Deal campaign pledge."

"And Governor Lan don is running for the presidency as a practical minded stateman and not as a glib promiser or a chanter or a crooner.

"He tells no bed times stories to lull his listeners to sleep. "It is now apparent at the end of the campaign that Governor ~andon surpasses his opponent in statesmanship quite as much as ~r. Roosevelt surpassed Mr. Laandon in showmanship at the beginning of the campaign.

"The question for the voters to answer tomorrow is -- "DO WE WANT A SHOWMAN OR A STATESMAN?"
